Exciting news! We’re partnering with Kakaw Designs to give one of YOU a gorgeous wallet crafted from upcycled materials, genuine local leather and Mayan-inspired textiles. If you don’t know this brand already, you will. They emphasize traditional Latin American motifs and techniques while supporting global communities and going a step further than many existing NGO’s.

Kakaw founder Mari found a disconnect with the non-profit organizations she worked with in indigenous areas—and was disappointed by the use of traditional textiles in poorly made, poorly designed goods. She set up shop in Guatemala, where she was originally born, and began ethically producing accessories with a team of local artisans, weavers, and talented women. The result is a beautiful brand with a beautiful mission—and we’re proud to be offering one of their wallets to you!

The Macaw Wallet, valued at $50, comes in a beautiful indigo-dyed drawstring bag and features naturally-dyed ikat textiles, compartments for IDs, credit cards, two flaps for bills, and a back zipper area for coins. It features a flap and magnet snap closure with an inside lining of vintage corte in indigo. All of their products are made from genuine local leather and support Guatemalan textile weavers and artisans.

Who is Kakaw Designs?

“Our mission is to create unique handmade leather products that combine upcycled materials and new Mayan textiles, bringing tradition-filled designs to the global clientele. We are committed to sustainability and dedicated to empowering traditional weavers and artisans through our local partnerships.”

My favorite trip was to London, poking around in dusty antique shops and scouting all the booths in the bazarres for unique things.

Probably a Colombia-Peru motorcycle trip a few years back. In the coming year I’d love to get to the redwoods.

I’m going to assume you’ve seen Motorcycle Diaries? That’ll pump you up for a South American moto-trip for sure! Both countries are gorgeous though I saw a lot more of Peru than Colombia. ;} Thanks for the comment + good luck!
